ARMAMENT OUTPUT
MAKING GREAT STRIDES IN CANADA PRODUCTION OF PLANES <&, NAVAL CRAFT. MANUFACTURE OF TANKS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright' (Received This Day. 10.10 a.m.) OTTAWA, July 30. Mr C. D. Howe, in the House of Commons, said Canadian factories expected to turn out 360 aeroplanes and 30 tanks monthly, early in 1941. Eight factories were working on 3.200 pianos, of which 257 had been delivered. The contracts involve 110,000.000 dollars. A further production programme, materially increasing the output, is being discussed between Canada and Britain. Canada at present is producing 600 mechanised units daily, for which Canadian orders alone represent 54,500.000 dollars. Britain. India and South Africa are buying largely. British and Canadian tank orders total 63.000.000 dollars. Canada is rapidly achieving a self-contained navy. Fourteen thousand men are employed in the shipyards and associated industries. Before the end of the year, 28 anti-submarine vessels and five mine-sweepers will be completed. The programme provides for 54 antisubmarine vessels for the Canadian Navy and 10 for the Royal Navy and 28 mine-sweepers for Canada.
