PADDY’S MARKET
LOCAL RED CROSS APPEAL. Although the Paddy’s Market on Friday is to augment the funds of the local Red Cross for its normal activities, which must be carried on. these activities are greatly increased in time of war and the public is asked by the organisers to support this cause liberally as it has always supported such objects. The office staff report that they had a particularly busy time yesterday and had to obtain more space to store the goods which are steadily swelling the supply that will be available on Friday. ’ Still more meat, cream and cakes are wanted, but the committee feels that there will be plenty if donations come in as rapidly as they did yesterday. . The sideshows are being well organised and every taste will be catered for. Ladies' organisations have arrangements for afternoon tea and supper well in hand. For the benefit of purchasers there will be a left parcel depot at the hall on Friday, where packages may be left safely at a cost of one penny. Those entering for the cake competitions—fruit cake and Madiera—are reminded that entries have been extended to close at 11 a.m. at the Municipal Hall on Friday. There is a steady stream of packages arriving for the Savage Club's Surprise Packet sale in the streets on Friday, many of them being of considerable value and none of less value than the Is that will be asked. Despite the fact that large quantities of paper and string have been donated, the committee urges that buyers bring their own bags or wrappers to save waste. The primary school pupils, under the guidance of the head teachers, arc working hard to make their stall a good one and this should be a special attraction, as many of the goods will be made by the pupils themselves.
