GREYTOWN
PERSONAL ITEMS (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr Alan Day left Greytown yesterday afternoon for Matamaia. Mr Owen Greathead was a visitor to Greytown at the weekend. The funeral of Mrs R. M. Day took place on Saturday afternoon. A short service was held at St. Luke’s Church. Canon Sykes paid a tribute to the long and faithful service to the chujch of the deceased. The hymn "Abide With Me” was sung. Mrs G. Robinson presided at the organ. The pall-bearers were Messrs A. D. Burch. Ivan Burch. A. H. York, Brian Skeet (Greytown), Colin Skeet and Joseph Skeet (Masterton). Floral tributes were from the following, among others: —Greytown Fruit Company, Greytown Foresters' Lodge, Greytown Borough Council Trust Lands Trust. St. Luke’s Church Vestry and St. Luke's Ladies’ Guild. Home Nursing. Notice is given by advertisement that Home Nursing classes will commence at the Blanket Rooms on Wednesday evening at 7.30 o’clock. Hockey Notes. Weather conditions were very threatening for Saturday’s games which were played on wet grounds as result of heavy rain on the preceding night and during the morning. The three local teams were again engaged, two at home and the Scouts in Masterton. Unfortunately both boys' teams had to play short. The juniors are now finding it difficult to field a full team each week because some of the players cannot get off work, and because of the association’s refusal to regrade two players who would have been able to give assistance when the team was short of its full number. The position may now be further aggravated for a month or two because of an injury received by J. Anker on Saturday. The Scouts were obliged to play a strong team with only nine players, two of the regular players being absent owing to a bereavement. In spite of the Scouts’ defeat, however, they played a sterling game. Particular mention should be made of the work of Hobson and Jury. The junior game was a disappointing affair generally. Carterton won comfortably but territorially Greytown had definitely the advantage. It was due solely to the full-backs tnat the Carterton forwards broke away as they did. Another disappointing feature of the game was the amount of slashing indulged in. The injury which Anker received was the result of one of these indiscriminate strokes by one of his own players.
