MORE PRODUCTION
FINANCE FOR FARMERS STATE ADVANCES OFFICIAL EXPLAINS SCHEME. NOT A REHABILITATION PLAN. Mr A. McDonald presided over a large and representative meeting of farmers and dairy company representatives held in the Farmers’ Rooms. Perry Street, this morning, under the auspices of the More Production Council to hear an address by Mr H. M. Caselberg, of the State Advances Corporation, Wellington, on the financing of increased production. Mr Caselberg briefly outlined the scheme and answered several questions. "There are 43 district councils at present." stated Mr Caselberg. pointing out that Pahiatua was included in Southern Hawke's Bay. and that it would be better from an administration point of view if two members of the Pahiatua committee were appointed to the Wairarapa Council. Mr Hugh Morrison: “Pahiatua is linked up with us through the Farmers’ Union. We have worked in with them all the time.” It was decided to include two representatives from Pahiatua on the Wairarapa Council. Marketing matters were easily financed, said Mr Caselberg, wfio stated that Mr Nash was facing difficulties in finding out from the Imperial Government what was required. There was an impression prevalent that the financial assistance scheme for increased production was part and parcel of a rehabilitation scheme for all farmers. Such was not the case. Several cases, he said, had already been dealt' with. In reply to a question by Mr McDonald, Mr j. Robertson, M.P., stated that the request for more production came from the Imperial Government some time ago. Events, such as the fall of France, had created problems which were then unforeseen. Shipping and storage facilities were uncertain. However, the New Zealand Government was guaranteeing to take all produce, whether it reached the market or not.
