WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
KA ITU NA-FERN RIDGE. MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. The monthly meeting of the KaitunaFernridge Women's Institute was held at the residence of Mrs lorns on Friday. It was decided to hold another card party at Mrs Alan Keir’s home. The next meeting, which will mark the seventh birthday of the Institute, i will be held at the residence of Mrs Stempa. Mrs G. Laing won the competition for ginger bread. The “best flower from my garden” competition was won by Mrs Scharnweber, with Mrs J. Shaw second. Votes of thanks were passed to Mrs P. Welsh for her very interesting demonstration in connection with the making of moccasins, to Mrs Smith (for* a donation, and to Mrs lorns for her hospitality. A happy gathering closed with the singing of the National Anthem. HASTWELLS MEETING. COMPETITION WINNERS. (“Times-Age" Special.) There was a small attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Hastwells Women's Institute. The. president (Mrs A. V. Madsen) presided. The competitions for the month resulted: —Sewing: —Seniors: Hot water bag cover, Miss H. Madsen, 1; Miss A. Dick, 2; Mrs J. Dick, 3. Juniors: Miss I. Madsen. 1; Miss E. Larsen, 2; Miss O. Halberg. 3. Cooking:—Juniors: Pastry, Miss O. Halberg, 1. In the flower competition, a> miniature garden on a plate was won by Miss A. Dick. An amusing game which was conducted by Mrs K. Ngatuere, was won by Miss O. Halberg, with Miss I. Madsen second and Miss H. Madsen third. The judges, Mrs Broadbent and Mrs Halberg, were accorded a vote of thanks. Eleven hot water bag covers along with children’s garments were sent in to the Red Cross. The hostesses. Mrs Elliott and the Misses K. and E. Larsen served afternoon tea after which the National Anthem brought the meeting to a close. MT. BRUCE MEETING. ARTICLES FOR RED CROSS SOCIETY. Members of the Mt. Bruce Women’s Institute met at Mrs J. Campbell's home, Ratanui. A busy time was spent making and filling hussifs. In the competition “something new from something old,” Mrs H. West gained first place and Miss O. Campbell and Miss Reader tied for second place Afternoon tea was provided by the hostesses, Mrs Campbell and Miss O. Campbell. All the articles from the competition and many others are to be forwarded to the Red Cross Society.
