MINIATURE RIFLES

MASTERTON CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP COMPETITIONS. SENIOR GOES TO D. P. DONALD. There was a poor attendance of members at the annual championship competitions held in the Club Rooms on Saturday. Splendid shooting throughout the day made it necessary for several competitors to shoot off to decide then - places in each grade. D. P. Donald, the popular club captain, was successful .in the shoot off with P. Russell for the club championship, and all members felt that they had witnessed a splendid exhibition of miniature rifle shooting all through this interesting competition. At the conclusion of the shooting the president, Mr H. King, congratulated the trophy winners on their fine performances, especially the A grade champion, Mr D. P. Donald; the B grade champion, Mr K. Lambert; the junior grade champion, Mrs C. J. Curtin, and the ladies’ champion, Miss E. Olliver. Before making the presentations Mr King expressed his regret that the club’s activities had to come to such an early conclusion owing to its inability to procure ammunition. He hoped, however, that the club would be able to obtain more ammunition soon. The following are the winners of the various trophies:— A grade club championship: D. P. Donald, 1; P. Russell, 2; H. K. Smith, 3; B. R. Jenkins, 4; I. Sutherland, 5. Ladies’ championship: Miss E. Olliver, 1; Mrs Catherall, 2; Miss J. Gray, 3; Miss L. Renner, 4; Mrs C. J. Curtin, 5. B grade championship: K. Lambert, 1; P. Martel, 2;. Miss E. Olliver, 3; W. F. Weston, 4. Junior grade championship: Mrs C. J. Curtin, 1; L. Fulton, 2; Mrs Clayton, 3Handicap aggregate: W. Lenz, 1; Miss J. Gray, 2; P. Martel, 3. Highest score in the final ten was won by H. Hope Cross. The season’s challenge trophies were won as follow: —Grand aggregate, D. S. McKenzie, Cup, B. R. Jenkins; season’s aggregate, A grade, H. K. Smith Cup, B. R. Jenkins; season’s aggregate, B grade, Hope Cross Cup, P. Martel; champion team, shot, Club Shield, P. Russell.

The Winchester Cup competed for throughout New Zealand was presented to the team’s captain, D. P. Donald. The following five each received a miniature of this cup which was presented byHhe New Zealand Miniature Rifles Association: D. P. Donald. P. Russell, H. K. Smith, I. Sutherland and B. R. Jenkins.'
