RUGBY FOOTBALL

MASTERTON CLUB. COMMITTEE MEETING. The fortnightly meeting of the management committee of the Masterton Football Club was held in Mr W. V. Madden’s office. Leecroft Chambers, on Thursday evening. Mr J. Dwyer presided over a large attendance of members. After several matters regarding the welfare of the club had been dealt with, a discussion took place on the annual married v single match to wind up the season, and it was decided to hold the match at the first available date. All members, past and present, are invited to take part in this fixture, which in the past has always proved a great success. A committee of three was appointed to award the trophy kindly donated by Mr G. Vincent of the Marquis of Normanby Hotel, Carterton. for competition among members of the senior team. It was reported that twelve members of the club were serving with the armed forces both in New Zealand and overseas, but still the club has been able to field three good teams throughout the season and all have had creditable success. The secretary reported that a donation of £1 Is had been made to the St John and Red Cross Sick, Wounded and Distress Fund. The meeting closed with a hearty vote of thanks to the chair, and to Mr Madden for the use of his committee room for the meetings.
