OBITUARY
MR ROBERT DAWSON. The death occurred yesterday afternoon of Mr Robert Dawson, of 77 Essex Street. Masterton, at the age of 80 years, after a very brief illness. The late Mr Dawson, who was born at Belfast, Ireland, came to New Zealand 60 years ago. On his arrival in New Zealand Mr Dawson took up his residence for a period in Dunedin, and in 1886 he came to Masterton. He had resided in the district ever since. Shortly after coming to Masterton he took up a bush section at Dreyer's Rock. Mauriceville, at a time when that district was in dense bush, and the only means of access a bridle track. Mr Dawson was a successful farmer and many sought his advice, based on his sound practical judgment on farming matters. Since 1912 he had lived in retirement in Masterton. He is survived by a widow and three sons. Messrs B„ Albert and Arthur Dawson, all of whom served in the last war. in which another son. Flight-Com-mander S. Dawson. D.F.C.. lost his life, in action in Russia. There are three grandchildren. Mr Samuel Dawson, of Mangamahoe is a brother. The funeral took place this afternoon.
