TO A LITTLE LADY.—Going to her gate one day to watch marching A.I.F. recruits who had paused for a breather, Mrs Davies, of Ascot Vale. Victoria, slipped them 30s to buy cigarettes and tobacco. The next day the company again stopped in front of her house. but this time, to her amazement, they entered the gate and presented her with a silver cake stand which was inscribed “From 150 Young Diggers,” and had been purchased with the proceeds of a collection amongst the men to show their appreciation of her kindly thought.
