HALT IN RACING
PROPOSED BY HAWKE’S BAY FARMERS. OUTSPOKEN OBSERVATIONS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DANNEVIRKE, July 25. The Southern Hawke’s Bay Farmers’ Union discussed the question of abolition of all forms of racing during wartime, including greyhound racing. Making a proposal to that effect, Mr J. M. Wright said oats that were being used and put down the necks of racehorses could be used to better purpose. Racing dogs should be destroyed their carcases used for feeding poultry and their skins in making coats for mine-sweepers. After a discussion, during which reference was made to the effect on Government revenue, a motion carried in the form of a recommendation to the Council of Primary Production, for consideration of the suggestion.
