GOLF NOTES

MAHUNGA CLUB DOINGS NET AGGREGATE CONTEST. SUCCESS OF INTERMEDIATE PLAYERS. ("By “Cleek.”) A very welcome visitor to the club during the weekend was the club’s popular president. Mr G. H. Perry. Mr Perry takes a very keen interest in the affairs of the club and his visits are usually attended by some useful suggestions. On Saturday the .third round of the net aggregate was played and was notable mostly for the success of the intermediate players. L. A. Curtis with a net 64 headed the field. This player has been rather erratic this year but his recent cards show that he is regaining the form that won him the junior championship last year. No doubt his handicap of 18 will now receive the attention of the handicapper. E. Jenkins is another player who is just striking form' and his net 67 will earn him a reduction. His Scores to date have not done him justice, but now that he has struck form it will not be surprising if he earns another reduction in the near future. R. J. Towns is a young player who has been playing steady golf all the season. He has already merited the attention of the handicapper but no doubt his net 69 will earn him a further reduction. J. VZ. T. Jones is another consistent performer, and he derives real enjoyment from his game. His 70 on Saturday points to a further redifttion in the near future. G. R. Turner and W. W. Hendry with net 71’s are always close to their handicaps. The latter on an 8 handicap is one of the most consistent and steady players in the club. K. McFarlane is to be congratulated on winning the captain's trophy. On a 3 handicap he has had to give strokes all through and has proved his worth by winning most of his games by convincing margins.
