BOARD OF GOVERNORS MEET REPORT OF THE PRINCIPAL. BUS GARAGE BEING ERECTED. The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa College Board of Governors was held at Wairarapa College last night. The chairman, Mr W. R. Nicol presided. there being also present: Mrs J. L. Hair, Messrs A. Owen Jones, F. C. Daniell, F. M. Whyte, G. C. L. Qickel, L. T. Daniell, and T. Hanley. An apology for absence was received from Mr J. D. O’Connor. The necessity of conserving paper supplies was stressed in a letter received from the Education Department. It was agreed that the board was doing its best in the matter. The Principal, Mr G. G. Hancox, submitted his report, for last month as follows:—On July 1 there were 262 boys and 226 girls on the day roll, a total of 488 pupils, compared with 493 for the same period last year. In addition 21 boys and 16 girls attended from another school for manual training. Evening and part-time pupils totalled 311, compared with 322 last year. A total of 42 pupils were boarding at College House and 27 pupils boarded privately. The number of children conveyed to school and in receipt of assistance from the Government by way of conveyance allowance totalled 95. Of these 78 came by train and 17 by road. Sixty-four pupils were in receipt of boarding allowance. The half-yearly examinations of the day school had been completed and reports sent out. The secondary inspectors were visiting the College from July 29 to July 31. On June 25 the second football fifteen beat Palmerston North Technical High School at Palmerston North 9/3. The first fifteen drew with Rongotai College first fifteen at Rongotai, 3 all. The first basketball team beat Palmerston North Technical High School at Palmerston North by 18 points to 12. On July 19 the second fifteen beat Hutt Valley High School second fifeen at Masterton 14/5. The first fifteen beat Napier Bovs’ High School 12/6. At Dannevirke the first girls’ hockey team beat Dannevirke High School 2/1. The second hockey team drew with Dannevirke. The A basketball team would take part in the quadrangular tournament at Dannevirke on August 2 and 3 Saturday working bees, under the leadership of Mr R. Jenkins were erecting the bus garage. Classes at the Hurunui-o-Rangi Pa were being held again this winter. Mr W. J. S. Musgrove being in charge of the woodwork and Mrs M. Howard the dressmakings For a few weeks Miss D. Larsen relieved Mrs Howard.
