CONDUCT OF JOCKEYS
WINGS TO BE CLIPPED. . (By Telegraph—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, July 25. “A number of prominent New Zealand jockeys will find their wings have been clipped very considerably when the list of licences appears on August 1," stated the Hon James McLeod. M.L.C., a member of the executive of the New Zealand Racing Conference at the annual meeting of the Taranaki ; Jockey Club at New Plymouth tonight. "Though I am not going to say there has been a ramp going on, I may say that both executive and stipendiary stewards have felt there has been some particularly clever riding. These riders will realise they are under strong suspicions and that the conditions of licences that will be given to them will place them under strict supervision." Benefited by Racing. Lucullus Boy has benefited by Trentham racing, so at Marton should be able to produce his very best form, making his prospects on Saturday at Marton above the average. Best Sprint at Riccarton. The best gallop at Te Rapa yesterday was that of Young Paddon, who traversed seven furlongs in 1.42 2-5. He ran his first furlong in 13, two in 25 1-5, three in 39 4-5, and the first half-mile in 56 3-5, which time, under the conditions. was highly satisfactory. No decision has as yet been arrived at as to which race will be his mission on Saturday, the Tally Ho Cup or the open sprint, but in whichever he starts, he will take a lot of beating. Viracious Goes Well. Viracious (Turu) shaded War Lap (Toki) at the conclusion of five furlongs in 1.10 at Hawera yesterday.
