MAGISTRATE’S COURT
BUSINESS AT MASTERTON SITTING. MOTORING AND OTHER CHARGES. The fortnightly sitting of the Masterton Magistrate’s Court was held this morning. Mi* H. P. Lawry, S.M., was on the Bench. The following business was dealt with:— John Mannel and Raymond Owen Wells, Masterton, were fined £1 and 10s costs and 10s and 10s costs respectively on charges of riding bicycles in Queen Street without lights. Charles Harold Skuse was fined £1 and 10s costs and 10s and 10s costs on charges of driving a vehicle in Renall Street, Masterton, without lights and without a driver’s licence. Robert Melvin was .fined £1 and 10s costs for failing to have a current warrant of fitness. Charged with having driven a vehicle without due care and attention in Queen Street on July 4. John Al-, len Physick was fined £1 and 10s costs. Mr D. G. Milne, Transport Department, proceeded against Gavin Norrie Cowan for driving a vehicle at Mt Bruce without a driver's licence. Defendant was fined 10s and 10s costs. The Borough Traffic Inspector, Mr J. McGregor, proceeded against Owen Llewellyn Udy for failing to give way to traffic on his right at the intersection of Queen and Church Streets. Udy was fined 10s and 10s costs. CIVIL CLAIMS. ■ •' ; /' - Judgment for plaintiff by default was given in the following undefended civil claims: — Neil M. Irwin v. W. Large, claim £3 3s 6d, costs £1 12s 6d; the Commissioner of Taxes v. Alfred Roy Cottle, claim £6 Bs, costs £1 Ils; Iva Gordon v. Mary Jonas, claim £5 is 6d, costs £1 10s 6d; C. Torr Ltd. v. Arthur O. Byrne, claim £l2 6s sd, costs £3 Is; Thomas George Mason v. Norman Reginald Jacobsen, claim £lO, costs £1 14s 6d; J. W. Dove v. W. Wollam Junr., claim £6 Bs, costs £1 Ils 6d; J. A. Cowie v. J. McCann, claim £3, costs £1 4s 6d. The 'following judgment summons orders were made: — S. G. Wyatt was ordered to pay J. C. Ewington £3 Ils 6d, in default 4 days’ imprisonment. Ken Garside was ordered to pay L. G. Jones £3 7s lOd, in default 3 days’ imprisonment. W. Large was ordered to pay Laery and Co., Ltd. £2 4s 6d, in default 2 days’ imprisonment. Roy Williams was ordered to pay Frank. Petrie Ltd. £8 15s, in default 7 days ’imprisonment.
