The Hon. D. G. Sullivan, Minister of Industries and Commerce, left Wellington for the south by the steamer last night. The Rt. Rev. H. St. Barbe Holland, Bishop of Wellington, who has been indisposed during the past week, has, on doctor's orders, left Wellington for a few days to recuperate. He is accompanied by Mrs Holland. The following names have appeared this week on the register at the Hotel Midland (Masterton): —C. Davies (Wanganui), B. Hollier (Hastings), H, Strange-Mure, R Tremaine, J. Ronald, A. Tunzleman, T. Quinn, H. Carey, H. Bolt (Wellington). At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Friesian Association, held in Christchurch, the election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr O. A. Cadwallader (Greytown); vice-pre-sidents, Messrs R. H. Dickie (Mataura), and H. Jolly (Waiuku, Auckland); auditor, Mr D. R. Revell (Auckland). The death occurred yesterday morning of Mr George Christopher Barker, for many years well known among Wellington printers. He served as president of the Wellington Typographical Union, and for many years was a member of its board. Mr Barker, who was 69 years of age, was a widower, but leaves two sons and two daughters. Mrs A. W. Chapman, of Masterton, who is a sister of the late Mr Barker, has left for Wellington to attend the funeral. There was a large attendance at the funeral in Masterton yesterday of Mr G. E. Bretherton. Among the many floral tributes were wreaths from the Lands, Agricultural and Valuation Departments, Masterton; the Commissioner of Crown Lands and staff, Wellington; Wharemouku Golf Club, and the Masterton, Carterton and Taumaranui Gun Clubs. The pall-bearers were the Hon. W. E. Parry, Messrs W. H. Saunders, C. E. Grey, M. Jones, J. M. Bailey and H. K. Smith. The first casualty as a result of enemy action involving New Zealand troops operating in the Near East is reported from Egypt. Mr O. Pussell. Kimbolton, has received advice that his son, Corporal O. T. Pussell, suffered flesh wounds in the arm and leg when an aerial bomb exploded among a transport supply column. Corporal Pussell was 23 on the day he landed in Egypt. He was a member of the Manawatu Mounted Rifles for three years. He later spent some time in Wellington, where he enlisted in the first echelon. The death has occurred of Mr William McHutcheson, former chief postmaster in Dunedin and Invercargill, in his eighty-ninth year. He arrived in New Zealand with his parents in 1860. and started his career in the telegraph office at Blenheim, later holding appointments in many towns in different parts of the Dominion. In 1898, at the request of the Government, he went to Vancouver to inaugurate the New Zea-land-Vancouver mail service. At the time of his retirement, more than 20 years ago, he was chief postmaster in Dunedin, and he continued to live in Dunedin till the time of his death. His wife died 22 years ago. and he is survived by a family of six daughters.
