ENEMY BASES
MANY ATTACKS BY ROYAL AIR FORCE HARBOURS AND DEPOTS BOMBED. COASTAL COMMAND ONSLAUGHT ON EMDEN. The R.A.F. were very active over enemy territory yesterday, when daylight attacks were made on barges, harbours and depots, Daventry reports. Three British machines failed to return. Coastal Command aircraft last night attacked the naval base at Emden, besides other objectives. All returned. In Germany objectives were bombed at many places. One British machine is missing. SOME CASUALTIES IN EAST SCOTTISH TOWNS. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Dav, 9.50 a.m.) RUGBY. July 19. The Ministry for Home Security states that aircraft on Thursday evening dropped incendiary and high-ex-plosive bombs in several districts in east Scotland. Damage was done to buildings in two towns and in one of these towns there were casualties, some of which were fatal.
AIR MINISTRY REPORT (Received This Day, 9 a.m.) LONDON, July 19. The Air Ministry reports that fighters shot down an enemy bomber into the sea on the south-east coast this morning.
