AIR MAILS
SERVICE TO THE UNITED KINGDOM. The Post Office advises that there is now available a fu'rther alternative service for air mail correspondence for the United Kingdom. This service is by means of the present weekly (expected to become twice-weekly at an early date) air-service between Sydney and Cape Town, via Cairo, and by surface transport between Cape Town and Great Britain. Under normal conditions. and by making use of the trans-Tasman air service as a connecting link, the transmission time between London and New Zealand by the combined air and surface route refeired to. will be approximately 32 days as compared with the average tians. time of six weeks for mail matter despatched the full distance by sea. The rate for correspondence via Cairo and Cape Town will be the Empire an rate of Is 6d per half ounce. Unless a better despatch offers, mail mattei prepaid at this rate will be despatche. by the Sydney-Cape Town via Cairo route.
