The third headmaster at the Port Albert School in 67 years, Mr G. H. Smith, has retired on superannuation after 43 years’ service with the Auckland Education Board. The first headmaster, Mr B. Martin-Gubb. served 15 years, and Mr G. B. Reid held the post for 25 years. Mr Smith served more than 27 years. The following Royal New Zealand Air Force appointments have been gazetted: —General duties branch: A. J. Bradshaw is granted a temporary commission in the rank of flying officer. Administrative and special duties branch: Flight Lieutenant A. C. McArthur and Flying Officer H. C. Lees, both from the Reserve of Officers, are appointed to the branch in their present rank. The Rev. A. A. Armstrong has intimated to the Session Managers of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church. Pahiatua, that, having received an appointment to the parish of Drury, Auckland, he was placing his resignation in the hands of the Wairarapa Presbytery. He regretted the severance of his ties with the people of his parish and the Pongaroa district, but owing to health reasons, he had to seek a' charge with less demands. An old boy of the Wanganui Collegiate School, Pilot Officer C. R. Frankish, who was reported to have been killed in action on May 12, was married only a week before his death. His bride was Miss Marjorie Townend, Auckland, who had arrived in England a few days before the wedding. Pilot Officer Frankish was 25 years of age and was born in Wanganui. He left New Zealand in 1937 for a short, service commission in the Royal Air Force. Following the outbreak of war he spent three months on active service in France, but in more recent months he had been stationed at an English aerodrome.
