SALE AT FEJLDING SHEEP PRICES FIRM. BEEF VALUES SLIGHTLY IMPROVED (By Telegraph—Press Association.) FEILDING, July 19. A very firm market for sheep was again in evidence at the Feilding stock sale today. The demand for all classes of breeding ewes was exceptionally strong, and an advance in values was recorded. The market for cattle was firm and for beef slightly improved. Fat sheep: Mutton values showed a rise on those last week, extra prime ewes going up by about 2s a head. Lambs also made improved prices. Extra prime wethers made 33s 7d to 35s 4d, prime 30s 4d to 32s 7d, unfinished 26s to 29s 4d, plain to 25s 9d; extra * prime hoggets 24s lOd to 26s 7d, prime 20s 6d to 23s 4d, light 17s lid to 19s lOd; k extra prime ewes 30s 4d to 32s 4d, very ' prime 26s lOd to 29s 6d, average sorts 25s 6d, lighter 16s lOd to 245. Store sheep: Both breeding ewes and better-quality lambs were in insufficient supply, and a rise on last week’s rates resulted. The sale was very keen, with a complete clearance. Best two-tooth ewes made 39s 3d, small 26s 9d to 31s 3d; good four-tooth to fouryear ewes 345; very good five and sixyear ewes 27s 7d; best four and fiveyear ewes 28s 3d to 31s, second-grade 27s 6d. others 24s 7d to 24s lOd; forward wethers 20s 6d to 21s 8d! best wether lambs 19s to 20s 2d, good 17s 7d to 18s 9d; smaller 14s 6d to 16s Bd. Store cattle: The light entry of store stcok made good values, with a sprinkling of station lines selling readily. Dairy cattle; Early calvers were forward in good supply and quality, and values rose for select sorts. A total clearance was effected. Best springing heifers made £lO 5s to £.12, second grade £8 12s 6d to £9 17s 6d, backward sorts £5 5s to £7 10s; very good springing cows £l3 to £l4 10s, second grade £9 10s to £l3. others £5 10s to £9; cows in milk £7 10s. Fat cattle: An improvement was shown in beef sale, heifers and cows of good finish appreciating considerably in price. Extra prime heifers made £ll 17s 6d, prime £7 12s 6d to £8 7s 6d, plain £5 17s 6d to £6 10s; extra prime cows £9 12s 6d to £lO 12s 6d. prime £7 10s to £9; light prime £5 17s 6d to £7; light prime oxen £9 12s 6d to £ll 17s 6d; vealers £3 5s to £3 10s. Pigs: A small entry of pigs made unchanged rates. Slips made 25s to 275. CARTERTON SALE FAT PRICES PARTICULARLY GOOD. PIGS MAKE LATE RATES. Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd report:—We'held our weekly sale at Carterton yesterday when a big entry for this time of the year came forward. Butchers were very keen bidedrs for fat sheep and prices were particularly good. Store sheep also made very good values and a total clearance was made at prices well above vendors' expectations. Springing cows and heifers made good values although' the quality was not particularly high. Fat and forward cows sold well. Pigs sold at late rates. The following are realisations: — Sheep:—Prime fat S.D. ewes, to 275; prime fat e'wes, to 28s 6d; fat wetheis, 35s 6d to 35s 9d; prime fat hoggets, to 35s 9d; fat hoggets, 26s 9d to 27s 6d; fat b.f.'s, to 29s 6d; light fat hoggets, 19s, 19s 3d to 19s lOd; fat ewes, 20s, 21s Id to 21s 3d; light fat ewes, 17s 3d, 18s Id to 19s; store ewes, 10s lOd to 13s 3d, woolly wether hoggets, 18s to 18s sd; b.f. hoggets, to 17s 2d; ewe hoggets, to 21s; small wether hoggets, to 16s sd. Cattle: Jersey cows, on drop, £9 to £lO 15s: springing, Jersey cows, £7 to £8 10s; Jerseys heifers, r.w. bull, to £5 10s: yearling Jersey heifers, to £3 6s; fat cows, £4 10s to £5 15s; forward cows, £2 15s to £3 16s; store cows. £2 to £2 12s 6d. Pigs: Weaners (small), to 20s; ditto (medium), 21s to 245; ditto (good), 25s to 265; slips, 27s to 29s 6d; store pigs, 30s to 35s 6d; light porkers. 38s to £2 7s; heavy porkers, £3 2s to £3 6s; sows to farrow, £4 5s to £6.
