INDOOR BASKETBALL

GAMES IN MASTERTON. NOTES ON THE PLAY. (Contributed). These indoor basketball games on Thursday night provided a series of surprises. Hugo and Shearers held Stock and Station to a scoreless draw. The fine defensive play of Miss G. Bacon was a feature of the play of the Hugo and Shearer’s team.

The fast-improving Hospital team continued on their winning way and defeated Woolworths by 3 points to 2. C. Moylan. for hospital, gave the best display. Woolworths played a very open game, but were no match for the nurses.

The Y.M.C.A. team was very unlucky not to win their game against C. Smith’s. The latter team played too much as individuals instead of combining more as a team. In the ladies B grade games the Garages had their first victory over Cathies. J. Irwin threw a splendid goal just when the result of the game was in the balance. V. Russell played the best game for Garages. N. Macdonald being the pick of the Cathie team.

In the men’s games the State Kitchenette held the Reliance B team (who are leading for the championship) to a draw, the score being 16 all. State Kitchenette have .been playing good basketball, and were very unlucky not to win. The Vesta-Bouzaid game also ended in a draw (14-all). For Bouzaid’s S. Faulknor was the best player and scored 10 points.
