S. MATTHEW’S SCHOOL

CHILDREN’S PARTY HELD ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON. AN OUTSTANDING SUCCESS. Over a long period of years the Parents’ Association of St. Matthew’s Collegiate School for Girls has held an annual children’s fancy dress party at the school, and it has always been a success, the children having a most enjoyable time. Down through the years it is always remembered by those who have been present, and though many of the old pupils are now married and some have children of their own they often refer in enthusiastic terms to the enjoyable times they experienced at the annual party when they were small children. With the old pupils the annual fancy dress party is always kept green in the memory just as it will be by present pupils when they leave their schooldays behind and enter upon the more serious side of life. , Loyal spirits among the members of the Parents’ Association have through the worked hard to make the party one the children will always remember, and none more so than the present members of the Association, who on Saturday afternoon in St. Matthew’s School Assembly Hall staged another outstanding gathering, which was attended by about one hundred children, whose fancy dresses made a brilliant scene. A large number of parents and. friends were present and were warmly welcomed by the Principal, Mrs M. Cleghorn. The series of dances and games were under the control of Miss Short, who was ably assisted by Mrs Messenger and three pupils of the school, Helen Pilmer, Betty Knubley and Juliet James. The music for the dancing and games was supplied by Mr B. Iveson, Mrs G. Tolhurst playing for the Sir Roger de Coverley dance. The children sat down to a bountiful supply of refreshments provided under the supervision of members of the Parents' Association. At the conclusion of the party cheers were given for Miss Short, Mrs Cleghorn and Mr Iveson.
