WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
MEETING AT OPAKI. COMPETITION WINNERS. The Opaki Women's Institute enjoyed the hospitality of Mrs Norman Wyeth at their July meeting. Mrs Beetham presided. Mrs Wingate reported on Red Cross activities. Members considered requests for assistance at the Paddy's Market to be held on August 2. Volunteer helpers at stalls, two in the morning and two in the afternoon, were arranged. Contributions were promised for stalls and surprise packets. The monthly competitions resulted as follows:—Sewing, garment for child 6 —B years: Miss lorns 1; Mrs Harris 2; Mrs Cooper 3. Flower: Mrs Wingate 1; Mrs Cooper 2; Mrs Buick 3. The speaker was Mrs de Temple, a visitor from Tahiti. She provided a great treat for her listeners in her descriptions of life and customs. both European and native, in her beautiful island home. The hostesses, Mrs Wyeth and the Misses E. and J. Rollo, served afternoon tea. The Misses Rollo conducted two naming competitions which provided much interest. The August meeting will be held at the home of Mrs Beetham. The refugee sewing competitions will be a garment for a school child. t The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
