AMERICA REMOVES LIMITS ON ENTRY. VISAS MADE READILY AVAILABLE. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) WASHINGTON, July 13. Quota limitations on the entrance of refugee children have been removed and the only limits on entry in future will be the ships available and assurances of American care for the children. Visas will be available for children under 16. An official said: “It is contemplated that visas and necessary papers shall at all times during the emergency be in the hands of at least 10.000 children in excess of those for whom shipping facilities are currently available.” ■ Nearly 2000 children between the ages of five and 15 arrived at Halifax (Nova Scotia) in two liners from the United Kingdom.
The disappointment felt by the New Zealand people at the postponement of the scheme for the evacuation of children from the United Kingdom to the Dominion was referred to by the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, in a broadcast address last night. He said that for reasons of national security the United Kingdom Government had regretfully found that just now it was unable to provide the very large naval escort which the full scheme would entail. The suspension was, he hoped, only temporary and people would, he was sure, be very willing to renew their kind offers of hospitality at some future date.
