Winter conditions prevailed for the final day of the Wellington Racing Club's meeting at Trentham on Saturday. The chief jumping event, the Winter Hurdles, was won by Jewelled Girdle, while the Winter Oats Handicap resulted in another victory , for the Whyte Handicap winner, Royal Star 11. Backers of the favourites had a bad day, the only first favourite to score being Screen Star, who won the Onslow Handicap.

RiSelling in the mud, Jewelled Girdle won the Winter Hurdles at Wellington on Saturday practically from end to end. The only horse that headed him on the journey was Araboa, but after the latter had clouted the fence by the seven furlongs the last time, Jewelled Girdle went into the sole lead, and never looked like being caught. Aussie Ra, who had drifted back in the middle stages after a bad jump, stayed on best of the others for a moderate second from Clarion Call, who ran a fine race under :. his weight and in the bad ground. Clarion Call jumped splendidly. Curie who had run up prominently out of the back the last time weakened to fourth and further back Soho, Student? Prince and Hessketoon. Soho and Hessketoon had every chance. Kaiwaka got the run of the race in behind the two leaders all the way. but he was going back over the last six furlongs. and did not complete the course. Winning Jockeys at Trentham. B H. Morris was the most successful jockey at the Winter meeting of the Wellington Racing Club, riding three winners. W. J. Mudford and W. J.
