WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATIONS INTERESTING MEN'S GAMES. WINS FOR HASTWELLS AND I CARTERTON. The two senior games of the Wairarapa men's competition, commencing the third round, were played at Lansdowne on Saturday. The grounds were not in a good condition to produce anything like a high standard of hockey, nevertheless both games were fairly interesting. RESULTS AT A GLANCE 'senior men. Carterton 4, Wesley |l. Hastwells defeated Dalefield by 5 goals to 2 in a game played in' a very fine sporting spirit. One player who was outstanding in this game was Mason Ngatere. This young Maori is playing a great game this season and has improved considerably since the season commenced. Dalefield has had bather a hard time keeping their team together, mostly ’ owing to injuries and sickness among their players. This has caused a weakening of their junior team who have had to be drawn on to avoid defaulting. Dalefield were strengthened on Saturday by the appearance of G. Tildesley, goalkeeper, who appears to be still in good form as custodian. Messrs Lewis and Clements were the umpires. CARTERTON v WESLEY. FAIRLY STRENUOUS GAME. Carterton defeated Wesley by 4 goals to 1 after a fairly strenuous and at times interesting game. Carterton played their usual consistently good game and had to keep playing at top form throughout as Wesley are a team who. although rarely spectacular in play, never let up on attack or defence, making their opponents work all the way.
