CONTINUED DESTRUCTION OF NAZI PLANES

Around British Coasts and Other Areas SEVENTEEN ACCOUNTED FOR YESTERDAY The latest reports show, a Da ventry broadcast states, that another 17 German planes were destroyed yesterday. . An Air Ministry communique says that strong forces of enemy bombers, escorted by fighters, attacked shipping and other objectives round the coast. Twelve enemy planes were shot down and many more damaged. One British fighter was lost. The R.A.F. has continued its bombing attacks on military objectives in France and the Low Countries, with the loss of one British plane. During these raids, five German aircraft were probably destroyed. It is stated in London that a further large draft of New Zealand airmen, comprising officers and other ranks, arrived in England on Wednesday for service with the R.A.F. Most of them were pilots, but there were observers and air gunners as well. A communique issued in Cairo reports further activities by the R.A.F., in which six Italian planes were destroyed, three being shot down in raids on Malta and two others badly damaged and three lighters in Eritrea destroyed on the. ground. The R.A.F. continued its successful bombing attacks in Libya and East Africa. All. the British machines returned safely.

An Admiralty communique states that units of the Fleet Air Arm attacked a harbour in Sicily ami sank .an Italian destroyer and a depot or supply ship. All the British aircraft returned.
