BABY CARNIVAL ENJOYABLE DANCE. (“Times-Age” Special.) A very enjoyable dance was held in the Odd Fellows’ Hall on Tuesday night by the Fire Brigade Carnival Committee. There was a good attendance including visitors from Masterton and Pahiatua. Marenzi’s Band supplied excellent music and were most generous in responding to encores. Members of the combination provided the extras. Mr H. Rogers proved r. most capable M.C. A home-made supper dispensed by the ladies' committee, was much appreciated. The winner of the novelty dances were Miss P. Curtis and partner (Monte Carlo), ana Mrs R. Duncan and Mr F. West (LuckySpot). Three competitions were finalised during the evening and those resulted as follows: —“Ten Bob,' Mr J. Sheehyn; tray cloth, Mr Dickson (Masterton); Easter eggs, Mr A. Rowden. A most sociable gathering terminated with the singing of the National Anthem. BUSH RUGBY UNION MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETING. A meeting of the Management Committee of the Bush Rugby Union.was held in Pahiatua when there was a good attendance of members. It was resolved in view of the fact that the Mangatainoka seniors were now so far ahead in the competition that they could not be beaten, to close the senior championship and declare Mangatainoka the winners. Advice was received from the Puketoi sub-Union to the effect that it had chosen Mr W. . Ryan to referee Saturday’s representative game against Bush. The Manawatu Rugby Union notified that it would be unable to arrange home and home games with Bush this year. The Dannevirke Sub-Union wrote stating that Horowhenua had been asked to play the Bebbington Shield challenge match on July 20. In the event of Horowhenua being unable tc play on that day, Dannevirke would accept the Bush challenge for July 20; otherwise Bush would meet Dannevirke on August 3. The Studebaker Cup was donated for competition among country schools, to be played for annually. Ballance will be the holders for 1940. It was not possible to arrange definite dates for Cowan Cup matches, the matches will start either on July 20 or August 3. Ladies’ Golf. Owing to unsatisfactory weather conditions, the first round of . the Southey Cup competition scheduled for last weekend, will be played on Satuiday, play commencing at 1.30 p.m. The draw will be the same as last week. Personal Items. Miss R. McCohon, Wellington, spent the weekend with Mrs G. Jaspers, at Newman. Mrs A. Hambrooke, Auckland, is the guest of Mrs G. Jaspers, Newman.
