TOLL TAKEN OF ENEMY RAIDERS

At Least Eleven Shot Down Yesterday TREMENDOUS BATTLE OVER CHANNEL ROYAL AIR FORCE RAIDS ON DOCKYARDS AND AERODROMES In raids on Britain yesterday the Germans lost at least eleven planes, three of them bombers, and there is reason to believe that many others were seriously damaged, a Daventry broadcast states. Two British fighters were lost and on Tuesday three. These facts are given in the latest Air Ministry communique. Agency reports speak of a tremendous battle over the English Channel and the south-east coast. A large number of German bombers came over, escorted by Messerschmitts. They were met by an anti-aircraft barrage and fighters. The enemy formation was broken up, the bombers sped for home and the Messerschmitts fought it out with the Spitfires. Some casualties were caused through bombs beingdropped on different parts of Britain, mainly in the south and south-east and in Wales. The damage was not serious. An Air Ministry communique states that British bombers br again attacked German naval dockyards and enemy-occupied aerodromes. Damage was done to all objectives. All the British machines returned. In extensive reconnaissance flights, three British machines failed to return.
