CELEBRITY CONCERT

FEAST OF MUSIC PROMISED ON SATURDAY. PERFORMANCE IN MASTERTON. The decision of the Government to present Centennial Celebrity Concerts in the provincial centres of New Zealand will enable many thousands of people to enjoy feasts of music and in this connection Masterton’s turn comes on Saturday night. The artists who will make their appearance are such world famous singers as Miss Isobel Baillie (soprano), Miss Gladys Ripley (contralto), Mr Heddle Nash (tenor) and Mr Oscar Natzke (bass). Another notable contributor to the programme will be Mr Clifford Huntsman, an English pianist, who besides playing solo items, will also be the accompanist. In addition, there is the Centennial String Quartet consisting of Messrs Vincent Aspey (first violin). Harry Ellwood (second violin), William McLean (viola) and Frank Bate (’cello). *

At the age of seventeen, Miss Ripley sang the second contralto part in a performance of “Elijah” at the Royal Albert Hall and she has since appeared there in principal parts in oratorio, etc, and at leading concerts and festivals in London and throughout the provinces. The beautiful quality of her voice is much admired.

The box plan is at the Arts and Crafts.
