AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION
WAIRARAPA EXECUTIVE CLUB ROOMS IN MASTERTON. ("Times- Age” Special.) The President (Mr 11. Lawson) presided over the monthly meeting of the Executive Committee of the Wairarapa Automobile Association held in Greytown. There were present: —Messrs C. J. Nix, J. ,W. Roydhouse, H. E. Jackson, D. L. Taverner, G. Hughan (Carterton), H. J. Jones, A. T. P. Hubbard (Masterton), F. C. Bunny, F. J, Nicholls (Greytown). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs J. W. Card (Featherston), D. B. Carrick (Masterton). R. McLaren (Martinborough). The Treasurer reported that receipts since .last meeting had been £6l. There was a credit oi £1321. Leave of absence through illness was granted to No. 2 Patrol. 11. M. Flaws. Twenty-five new members were elected. Patrols Nos. 1 and 2 reported that they had interviewed 32 prospective members and enrolled 16. Road information had been supplied to 63 members. Assistance had been given to six Wairarapa members. The reports were adopted. The Secretary reported that through the Young Farmers' Club application had been made to the Department foi 27,5 trees and these had come to hanci and under the supervision of Mr Robinson, nurseryman, of Masterion, 106 holes had been dug. The other holes necessary would be dug and the trees planted when the weather was favourable. Mr Jackson suggested that a table, be erected indicating that the Young Farmers’ Club provided and plantec, 275 trees. This would give the Young Farmers a lasting interest in the welfare and growth of the trees. —The suggestion was adopted. It was resolved that the freight on the trees. £7 Is lOd. be paid by tin Association. The trees came from the Internal Affairs Department, Christchurch.
Mr Nix reported that the necessary dividing fence to surround the actual camping ground had been erected. It was necessary to re-erect the fence along Underhill Road and he suggested that the posts should be concrete as the wooden posts had been burnt. The wire was all right .but was lying on the ground. —It was resolved that this be done.
Mr Hubbard reported that the Masterton Committee had inspected all rooms suitable for a Club Room and had decided that premises over the State Theatre were entirely suitable. These were available for a period oi live years at a reasonable rental. Mr Roydhouse moved that an oiler be made to the owners to lease the premises for a period of five years, with the right of renewal. —Mr Taverner seconded. The motion was carried. The Masterton Committee was authorised, if the Association s offer was accepted, to obtain estimates lor suitable furnishing. The President reported that a member of the Executive, Mr I). B. Carrick, had been confined to hospital and the secretary had forwarded on behalf' of the committee a letter of condolence and sympathy.—The action of the secretary was endorsed and the hope expressed that Mr Carrick would soon be about again.
