CONTRIBUTION TO COST OF DESTROYER. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY. July 8. In expressing the thanks of the Navy to the people of the Union whose generosity to the mayors’ fund in South Africa has enabled a further £30.000 to be allocated toward the cost of a new destroyer, the First Lord of the Admiralty. Mr Alexander, said: “When the Prime Minister held my office he made it known that he would be glad to submit in due course for’ the approval of Ms Majesty the name selected by the fund for a destroyer of the O class—the first class of destroyers to be ordered stince the war began. I would like to say how happv I will be to carry out his promise.”
