LINER PASTEUR
ATTEMPT TO SCUTTLE SHIP REPORT FROM NEW YORK. CANADIAN DENIAL. (Received This Day. 10.5 a.m.) NEW YORK. July 9. It is reliably stated that efforts of the crew of the French liner Pasteur to scuttle the ship, which was anchored in the Bedford Basin, near Halifax, were thwarted by an armed party of Britishers who forced their way aboard and closed the sea cocks. There was some scuffling but no gunfire. The Pasteur sailed from New York on June 17, carrying munitions under the British flag. An Ottawa message states that it is officially denied that her crew attempted to scuttle the Pasteur.
