GARDEN TOOLS
KEEP-THEM RUST FREE. Al this season of the year some tools are left untouched for fairly long periods. Unless precautions are taken, the damp atmosphere will soon cause rust. Tn the case of all cutting tools, this is a serious matter. Keep a jar of thick oil in the tool shed and every time the tool is replaced, paint it over with a blush dipped in the oil. Every tool has its own nail, so absentees are not so easily overlooked. It sometimes happens, however, that a tool does not receive treatment until it is really rusty. In this case allow the affected part to soak in vinegar for a day or more, according to the degree of rust. If then washed in warm water, all traces of the rust will disappear. With this simple treatment. spades, shears, edging tools and similar implements will last for many years and retain their edge for many seasons. After purchase of a new tool, soak the steel part in strong hot soda water for an hour or so, wipe dry and then oil well; this will prevent rust for quite a Jong time.
