AIR MAIL SERVICE

UNITED KINGDOM—EGYPTIAN SECTION SUSPENDED. The Postal Department advises that it is apparent from the quantity of correspondence for the United Kingdom that continues to be posted at the rate of Is 6d per half ounce, that many people have overlooked the suspension of the United Kingdom-Egypt section of the Empire ail mail service resulting from the entry of Italy into the war. There is now no air route at the rate mentioned available to New Zealand senders, the most practicable alternative to sea transport for the full distance being as under: — (a) New Zealand-Honolulu by sea, Honolulu-New York by air, New YorkUnited Kingdom by sea. Is 9d a halfounce. (b) New Zealand-Honolulu by sea. Honolulu-Lisbon by air, Lisbon-United Kingdom by sea. 4s a half-ounce. Further alternatives will, of course, become available when the Pan-Ame-rican Airways’ Trans-Pacific air service between Auckland and San Francisco commences in a few weeks’ time. It will then be possible to forward United Kingdom correspondence by air from Auckland as far as New York for 4s a half-ounce, or as far as Lisbon for 6s 3d a half-ounce.
