ARREST OF JOURNALISTS
ORDERED BY THE PETAIN GOVERNMENT. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, July 8. • It is learned in London that the Petain Government has ordered the arrest of four notable journalists, who were accused of spreading false news, namely, Madame Tabouis, of “L’Oeuvre,” “Pertinax” (Andre Geraud), of “L’Ordre,” Henry De Kerillis, of “L’Epoque,” and Emil Bure, of “L’Ordre.” All have quitted France. The subservience of the French Government at Vichy to the German wishes is demonstrated by this announcement, which was made by the German-controlled French radio station, Poste Parisien (comments a British Official Wireless message). Those accused are leading journalists who in their writings have invariably displayed complete loyalty to France and a thorough appreciation of the Nazi menace. ———
