TRIAL MATCH SELECTION OF LOCAL PLAYERS. DRAW FOR B GRADE COMPETITION. Followers of table tennis in the Wairarapa will be interested in the trial match that has been arranged to take place on Saturday, at the Scout Den. Dixon Street. Masterton. The local players who will participate are Messrs .1. Nicholls. I. Coleman. N. Myers. A. .Tones S. Slater. K. Miller. J. Haywood, W. Day. 1. O'Connor, and E. Hirst; Mcsdames J. Nicholls, 11. Myers, E. Hurley and Misses .1. Larsen J. 'McGovern, N. Brown. H. Potangaroa and M. Potangaroa. Tlie games should provide a high standard of table tennis and the sole selector, Mr M. Winslade, should have considerable difficulty in making his decision as to the personnel of the representative team to visit Wanganui on July 27. Those who are fortunate in meeting with the selector's approval should prove formidable opponents for the Wanganui members. The first, round of the B grade com-, petition will be played at the Scout Den on Thursday, at 7 p.m. The draw is as follows: —Winter Sports I v Kuripuni II: Winter Sports II v Mauriceville East I; MmDuffs v Mauriceville East II; Post. Office I v Kuripuni I: Catholic Club 1 v Catholic Club II; Social Security v Post Office 11.

NOTES ON RECENT PLAY.

The following players will represent the chib in the B grade competition A team. Miss O. Quinn. Messrs E. Sherrock, N. Leadley and A. Howes; B team. Miss M. Scanlon. Messrs A. Benfell, J. Catherall and D. Stevens.

The first six positions on the ladder at present are as follows:—I. H. Coleman. J. Nicholls, J. Haywood. Miss Nora Brown. P. Greenlees, M. G. Wing. Tan Coleman lias remained on top of the ladder for the past three weeks, and during this period has successfully defended his position against Messrs J. Nicholls. J. Haywood. P. Greenlees and M. Winslade. and there is little doubt that he will be included in the Wairarapa representative team to play Wanganui. Another club player who should merit inclusion in the Wairarapa team is Miss Nora Brown. Miss Brown’s play has been improving rapidly this season and members were not surprised when she defeated Peter Greenlees in a ladder match last week. On Saturday night a combined doubles Yankee tournament was played. The section winners were: A. Mrs Winslade and J. Nicholls: B. Messrs N. Leadley and I. O'Connor: C. Messrs T. ihaka and J. Gill. Messrs Ihaka and Gill emerged victoriously from the final match and so carried off the trophies.
