ULSTER’S STAND
AGAINST UNITY WITH EIRE & NEUTRALITY DECLARATION BY FINANCE MINISTER. MR DE VALERA’S POLICY ATTACKED. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, July 7. The Ulster Minister of Finance, Mr J. M. Andrews, speaking at Belfast, said if Northern Ireland joined Eire on Sir de Valera’s terms she would become neutral instead of being actively engaged in the fight for liberty. Such a reversal of Ulster’s historic attitude was unthinkable. Ulster would stand by Britain until victory was won. Those urging a united Ireland were acting disloyally and really advocating further dismemberment of the United Kingdom, he said. Eire would be safeguarded against invasion if she welcomed' British troops and opened her ports and harbours to the British Navy. Mr de Valera might be forced to ask for Britain’s help when it was too late. The only way the British Isles could be adequately protected was by joint action.
