MARTINIQUE ISLAND. DENIAL OF FRENCH REPORT. (By Telegraph—Press Association-—Copyright) LONDON, July 6. It is authoritatively stated that contrary to certain reports the French island of Martinique in ‘the West Indies has not been blockaded. A message from Washington received on Saturday stated: French sources report Martinique is blockaded by British cruisers and that fighting might be imminent. It is stated that the island authorities have taken side with Marshal Petain. The British, it is declared sought to prevent a shipment of American planes which has been delivered in the islands from California falling into German hands. It is reported that the American planes have not been removed from the crates. It is suggested that they might be used in the event of a fight. There are some French submarines and smaller craft, a force of French marines, and some French gold at Martinique. Martinique is well inside the Pan-American neutrality zone. A New York message said: It is stated without confirmation that the French aircraft-carrier Bearn, on which there are 100 American planes, is at Martinique.
