TRUTH IN ERROR

STATEMENT BY CHAMBERLAIN.

Mr Chamberlain has proved that when he said “Hitler missed the bus” he referred to something before the invasion of Norway, notes the London 1 correspondent of the “Mantheste • Guardian.” In the last war Mr' Asquith was taunted with having said “Wat and see” as though it referred to his conduct of the war, whereas he had said it in answer to an improper inquiry about Budget taxes. Yet although both taunts were unjustified and unfair they hit something salient and recognisable in character in each statesman that could not easily be removed from the popular mind. Mr Chamberlain will find it as hard to live down “Missed the bus” as Mr Asquith did “Wait and see.”
