CADET DIVISION’S.
Now in war, and as in peace time, the work of the Order of St. John in the Wairarapa is proceeding apace. Never before has the work been so important, in particular the task of training lads and young men to be the ambulance officers of the future. Casualties on the football, basketball, and hockey grounds are attended to promptly and regularly each Saturday. In the summer months at sports meetings and public gatherings the black and white uniform of members of the Order can be seen. All services are given freely, and without charge, by members of the Order. The scope of the work naturally increases in wartime. Provision has to be made for the equipping of members to be trained in air raid precautions, etc. The younger lads in the Cadet Division, being trained under the Cadet Superintendent, Mr C. S. McQuade, and Cadet Officer Dean speedily outgrow their clothing, and as the Division believes in being self-supporting no appeal is being made but dances are held in the Masonic Hall to raise funds. Such a function will be held in the Masonic Hall tonight, when dance patrons can support a worthy object and at the same time spend an enjoyable time.
