July Details of the raid in which Mr Churchill said French ships joined British ships in repelling the raiders show that 40 bombs were dropped, mostly in an attempt to hit warships in the harbour. A terrific anti-aircraft fire forced the raiders to turn back and most of the bombs fell into the sea. Several struck a customs building. wounding several natives. Another. dropped 10 . miles west of Alexdria, killed two natives. Bombs on King Farouk's estate at Montaza killed 12 natives.
