MISSING AIRMAN
PILOT-OFFICER D. A. TODD. Pilot-Officer D. A. (Joe) Todd, who is reported missing as the result of air operations on July 4, commenced his flying career with the Wairarapa and Ruahine Aero Club at the Hood Aerodrome, Masterton, under the club’s instructor, Mr K. R. Johnston, in December, 1936. He gained his A licence and continued flying with the club until his departure overseas in February of last year to join the R.A.F. in England. He took part in the first raid on Sylt and participated in operations over Heligoland to prevent German planes taking off on mine-laying expeditions. He also made reconnaissance flights over Germany, taking part in recent night raids over Germany with the bomber squadrons. Several interesting letters describing his experiences as a member of the R.A.F. were received by the Aero Club.
