NOTABLE PART
IN DEVASTATING RAIDS ON GERMANY TAKEN BY NEW ZEALAND SQUADRON. MAGNIFICENT JOB BEING DONE. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, July 4. A New Zealand squadron, in association with an English squadron at the same Bomber Command station, has taken a prominent part in the recent devastating British raids on Germany. Night after night the New Zealanders’ planes have participated in raids varying from five to eight hours’ duration. They have penetrated deep into the enemy territory and inflicted severe damage in important supply storage areas. These men, who are from all parts of the Dominion, are living strenuous days and nights. They are doing a magnificent job in association with their English colleagues, and some of them have not left their aerodrome for weeks except to “call on Jerry.” The officer commanding at the station described the personnel of both the squadrons as the finest material imaginable. The Auckland writer, Mr Hector Bolitho, has made a loan to the station’s chapel for the duration of the war of ' a finely-carved prayer-desk from St George’s Chapel, Windsor. Mr Bolitho received this as a gift from the Dean of Windsor. It will go to the Auckland Cathedral after the war.
