BRITISH CHILDREN
SCHEME BY BORTHWICK & SONS. HEAD OFFICE IN LONDON APPROACHED. Members of the permanent staff of Messrs Thomas Borthwick and Sons. Ltd. in New Zealand and Australia, have offered to care for children of the firm's permanent staff in England for the duration of the war. Offers to billet so far received from members of the stall' in New Zealand alone indicate that over a hundred children could be accommodated without any difficulty and in all probability that number could be increased considerably if necessary.
The firm has cabled to its head office in London making the offer and a reply has been received expressing deep appreciation of the gesture and stating that the matter was being inquired into. It; was suggested that application for evacuation of the children from Britain should be made through the appropriate authorities in England. The proposal has been taken up with enthusiasm by the members of the staff in Now Zealand. The children, if thescheme is adopted, will be distributed among the firm’s employees at Masterton. Feilding. Waitara and Belfast. Already Masterton employees have offered to take about 40 children.
