Britain is reported to have purchased the flying-boat Guba for conversion into a long-range bomber. It will be recalled that the Guba. which was owned by an American, Dr Richard Archbold, was used for an experimental survey flight, sponsored by the Australian and British Governments, from Sydney, across Australia and the Indian Ocean, to Africa, in June, 1939. Captain P. G. Taylor accompanied Dr Archbold and his party as chief pilot.
