COSY THEATRE
“SECRET SERVICE OF THE AIR.” Tonight’s programme Will provide two excellent pictures in “Secret Service of the Air” and “Stepping Toes.” In the former, Ronald Reagan, John Litel and Ila Rhodes are starred. This film is the first of a new series to be issued by Warner Brothers, featuring highlights from the colourful career of W. H. Moran, formerly chief of the American Secret Service. The film is concerned with the attempts of the service to break up a huge ring of racketeers engaged in smuggling aliens into the United States. For this purpose Ronald Reagan, a pilot in the China Clipper, is coopted to assist. The hero of “Secret Service of the Air” —and he will remain the central character of the series —is the tall, good-looking Ronald Reagan. There is no doubt that he looks the part, and his sensational rise to prominence in scarcely more than a year of screen acting indicates that he will act it to the hilt. Appearing opposite him in the first picture of rhe series—and probably throughout will be a blonde newcomer to the screen named Ila Rhodes, who is regarded by Warner Bros, as the most promising young actress signed by the studio in rdeent years. The other attraction, “Stepping Toes,” features Hazel Ascot, Enid Stamp-Taylor, and Jack Barry. The picture introduces the screen’s newest juvenile star Hazel Ascot in a sparkling, spectacular show packed with music, whirlwind dancing, and catchy tunes. Only nine years old, Hazel presents her talent as well as the most seasoned performer. Her natural acting is a credit to an actress so young. She is supported by several juveniles who arc equally natural in their actions. Her versatility with dancing and singing is evidence that she is destined for fame. “A YANK AT OXFORD." The change of programme tomorrow will be headed by “A Yank at Oxford," featuring Robert Taylor. Vivien Leigh. Maureen O'Sullivan, Lionel Barrymore and Edmund Gwenn. It is a picture full of laughs.
