PRESSURE ON BULGARIA AND HUNGARY

A general mobilisation of the Rumanian army, navy and air force has been ordered following reports that the Russians, in their advance to occupy the ceded territories of Bessaia ia and Northern Bukovina, are going beyond the agreed line. It is unofficially stated that the Rumanian Goycrninen. has appealed to Berlin to halt the Russian advance. Soviet tanks which advanced beyond the agreed points lias w' idrawn to the stipulated line. It is reported on high authority that Gennanj and Italy have assured Rumania that they will prevent luitiei. Soviet advances. It is officially denied in Bucharest that there has been fighting between the Russian and Rumanian troops. Die meeting of the Rumanian Parliament has been postponed to July 1. Excitement is mounting over possible further claims. Ihe police have, taken action to prevent demonstrations against Hungary. The Bucharest correspondent of the British. United Press says it is reported without confirmation that King Carol has gone to Rome to seek Italian backing against Bulgaria ant Hungary. A Budapest message says Germany and Italy are reported to have brought pressure to bear on. Bulgaria and Hungary to restrain their claims against Rumania. Italy and Germany are in close consultation, regarding means to assure peace in the Balkans till after the Axis offensive against Britain. . It is reported that Hungary and Bulgaria are withholding territorial claims against Rumania, though a dispatch from Sofia to the Italian newspaper, “La Tribuna,” said Bulgaria has formally requested Rumania Io return her former province of Dobruja. The. Budapest radio announced that because of the confused situation the Hungarian Government has ordered new contingents to advance toward the Rumanian frontier. Officials declared that if the Russians advanced beyond the agreed borders it would entirely change Hungary’s attitude. The semi-official Hungarian news agency denied that Herr Hitler had communicated with the Hungarian Prime Minister, Count Teleki, in connection with the restoration of Transylvania.
