SNOW IN WAIRARAPA

WIDE AREA AFFECTED. t Masterton and district had its first taste of winter last night, when a southerly set in with renewed vigour and brought with it the first snow of the season, as far as the lower country was concerned. Snow fell over a wide area during the night. The foothills of the Tararuas were well coated this morning and a white mantle was to be seen on the Maungaraki Ranges and on Rangitumau. Snow fell on all the hill country between Opaki and Pahiatua. At Eketahuna a fall of about three inches was reported.
