CARTERTON

POULTRY BREEDERS GREATER PRODUCTION OF EGGS. (“Times-Age” Special.) At a well-attended meeting of Carterton poultry breeders, Mr J. Wilson presided and explained the purpose of the gathering. It was resolved that those present be a Carterton group to work in conjunction with a Wairarapa body to do what is required by the Government in the effort to produce more eggs, the group only to deal in the question of egg production. Delegates were appointed to attend a meeting at Masterton on Monday. When everything has been arranged they will be ready to act upon l instructions from the. general Wairarapa Committee. Another meeting is to be held on Monday, July. 8, to discuss additional ways and means of assisting in the extra production of eggs. Patriotic Meeting. A representative meeting of delegates from Carterton, Parkvale, Waihakeke, Matarawa, Dalefield, West Taratahi and other places was held in the Dalefield Dairy Co’s building yesterday afternoon. The Mayor (Mr D. L. Taverner) presided, and after discussing the question of entertaining sodliers, it was resolved that each district control its own local function. Church Service. Church of England services will be conducted at Longbush at 2.30 p.m. on Sunday. Social for Soldiers. Tonight the residents of Parkvale and district will entertain two members of the special force who are to go on active service. It is expected a large gathering of residents of the district will be present. Cyclist Injured. A son of Mr E. Phelps was recently riding home to Carterton on his bicycle and when going down the hill near the Clareville Cemetery he struck a large stone and was thrown heavily on to the roadway, sustaining injuries to his face. He was taken to the Croydon hospital and treated by Dr W. J. C. Wells. He left the hospital today, having recovered from his inFootball Club’s Dance. i |fhe Carterton Football Club will h/ld its annual ball in the Kings Theatre on Monday, July 29, not on Monday next, as stated.in yesterday’s issue.
