The official spokesman in a _ statement said the Vice-Foreign Minister, Mr Tani, and the Netherlands Minister, Mr Pabst, this afternoon discussed the Japanese Government’s desire that the Netherlands and the Netherlands East Indies Governments “actively take appropriate measures in order definitely to assure exports in the desired-quan-tities of goods required from the Netherlands East Indies and also to dispose promptly of the question of Japanese enterprise and the entry of Japanese.” The statement pointed out that since Mr Arita’s declaration concerning the maintenance of the status quo in the Netherlands East Indies the Japanese Government had negotiated with the Netherlands Government in order to assure exports of East Indies’ commodities deemed essential to Japan whereupon the Netherlands and East Indies Governments declared their compliance with Japan’s desires. The statement said Japan was deeply interested in the maintenance and further promotion of close commercial relations with the Netherlands East Indies.
